These are the units that are offered by Murdoch University. Students wanting more information about the units should consult the Murdoch University Handbook.
MCC105 INTRODUCTION TO RADIO
This unit takes students through the beginnings of how to become a good radio journalist. With the use of portable recording equipment and digital editing software, students learn what makes a good radio interview and how to package a radio story. Students also learn to present and produce a small program while operating the radio console.
MCC244 RADIO PRESENTING AND PRODUCING
This unit allows students the first-hand experience of presenting and producing for a real-life community radio station, Radio Fremantle 107.9FM in Western Australia. Students work in teams, producing South Street, a daily 2 hour Drive program.
MCC214 SOUND
This unit gives students a range of skills in Sound Production - from radio drama and music recording and mixing, to film sound and multimedia productions.
MCC243 RADIO NEWS
In Radio News students work in an industry standard newsroom located in the new Media Arts Centre at Murdoch University. During broadcast season they prepare and broadcast three daily live radio news bulletins on Radio Fremantle 107.9 FM. As with the unit Presenting and Producing, students do the work 'for real' - broadcasting their news service to the metropolitan area of Perth.
MCC316 RADIO PROJECT
In this advanced radio unit, students produce radio features, documentaries and plays. Special projects allow students to perfect and further improve their already exciting skills in radio production, as well as giving them creative leeway. Some of the students' stories can be listened to on-demand from the
Radio Projects page of this website.
